The Artist

Portrait 3

Genny Woods is an installation and lens-based artist whose work explores levels of consciousness and detachment. Her work relies on the sensual qualities of materials and concepts are derived from the resonance of objects and playful manipulation of everyday materials.

The presentation of the work is confined within the clinical whiteness of the gallery space, where the outside world must not come in; where the disembodied eye is welcome, yet the presence of the body is not. Upon entrance the viewer becomes instantly aware of the self before any ‘Art’ which is on display. In this context, the relationship between the work and the body is amplified.

Blue DoorInstallations are created in response to exploratory photographs and encourage the audience to identify differences and similarities between the Real and the surreal, between the public and the private, between the poetic image and the actuality of objects, bringing the outside in and the inside out.

Genny Woods currently lives and works in Belfast having obtained an Ordinary degree in Art and Design at Galway- Mayo Institute of Technology and a BA Hons. in Fine Art at the University of Ulster in Belfast. She continues to practice while becoming involved with Community Arts projects throughout Ireland.
